The Science Sleuths - A Brief Blurb

Updated: May 17, 2022

Book 1 - Donny "Grits" Karr and Joe Grean love Science, and they've made it a big part of their life. Studying Science is a large part of how they choose to spend their spare time. They can often be found at the Library, on the farm, floating down the Cedar River, or picking someone's brain, but they're always having an adventure!

Book 2 - Donny "Grits" Karr and Joe Grean are studying Chemistry this time, because Science is such a big part of their life. Grits lives on a farm with the Cedar River running along one side. There's Chemistry galore on the farm, in the river, in their bodies, everywhere. Adventures are not hard to find for these two, and sometimes adventures find them.

Book 3 - Donny "Grits" Karr and Joe Grean have a third partner. Juan Sueverkruebe is now part of the "Three Amigos." We are studying Biology now. Biology is everywhere on the farm. We even learned from a long-haired hippie about the Azadirachta Indica, a tree native to India and Pakistan that's called the neem tree. Neem products are so numerous that we learned that Biology is in more places than we knew!

Book 4 - Donny "Grits" Karr, Joe Grean, and Juan Sueverkruebe are the "Three Amigos." We are studying Environmental Science (ES) now. ES reaches far beyond the farm and the Cedar River. It involves humans in all cultures and ecosystems. People have found ways to pollute our air, water, and soil, but we find it challenging to clean up after ourselves. ES even influences national and international politics.

Book 5 - The "Three Amigos" have decided to study Astronomy. Big city life can have so many lights and big buildings that a good place for observation is rare. Our farm offers excellent viewing, and I found a good contact with an Astronomy professor. There are also some objects that can be viewed during the day if you get creative enough! Do not look at the sun without proper protection!

Book 6 - The "Three Amigos" are studying Meteorology now. There is more Science in the study of weather than most people know. Knowledge of Meteorology can help design an efficient home, a prosperous city or factory, or recreational excitement. Rainstorms, hurricanes, typhoons, and tornadoes can carry enough energy that they should be avoided if possible. Sometimes they can surprise you!

Book 7 - The "Three Amigos" are 15 now, and they are studying Engineering. A career in Engineering can take you in many different directions. Engineers design homes, roads, bridges, skyscrapers, spaceships, computers, gaming devices, and practically everything that humans use or see every day. Some Engineers get very artistic! As Albert Einstein put it, "Creativity is intelligence having fun!"

Book 8 - Our study group is now the "Fearsome Four." We’ve chosen to study Social Science, largely due to some very personal experiences of our newest member. He has seen poverty, racism, urban decay, transportation issues, and unemployment. He’s also seen malnutrition, substandard housing, child abuse and neglect, crime, and substance abuse up close and personal. None of them are pretty!

Book 9 - The "Fearsome Four" have chosen to study Geology. We’re now 16-years-old and taking closer looks at our futures. We spend our time doing what we love, and our hobbies may someday become our careers. Many adults don’t love their work, and our parents want more for us than that. A basic understanding of the planet that we live on and call home could be useful!
